Coca Cola Scholarship
A Coca Cola Scholarship is available to high school seniors, which have not graduated yet, attending any high school within the U.S. There are several different programs available from 250 scholarships to four-year educational institutions to nominated two-year scholarships. In order to be eligible for this scholarship, a student must currently be home schooled or attending a high school within the US. There are certain residential requirements that must be met, along with the student maintaining at least a GPA of 3.0, at the conclusion of their high school junior year. Of course, any immediate relatives of Coca Cola employees, owners, officers, or bottlers, are not eligible to receive the Coca Cola Scholarship.
On a yearly basis, 250 seniors in high school receive the Coca Cola Scholarship. 200 seniors receive a regional scholarship worth a total of $4,000 to go towards four years of college. 50 chosen seniors receive a national scholarship worth a total of $20,000 to go towards four years of college.
In order to be considered for the Coca Cola Scholarship students must submit an application during their senior year, between September and October. Out of all the applications submitted during that time, judges will select up to 2,000 people to put on the semifinalist list. Once the semifinalists have been chosen, each one is then notified of their selection. They are also required to fill out and return a more thorough application that includes a great deal more than the initial application. Some added things include personal recommendations, a school report, an application essay, and some further details regarding their biographical information.
After all this information is received by a specific deadline, a committee will make a selection of finalist. In general, there are 250 finalists after their selection, thus 250 scholarships. After selection, the finalists are then invited to the Coca Cola Scholarship weekend held in Atlanta, Georgia. All of this is paid for by the Coca Cola Scholarship foundation and this allows the committee, on a national level, to determine who should receive the 50 national scholarships and who should receive the 200 regional scholarships.
There are a wide variety of aspects that go into choosing who should receive any of the scholarships. Some criteria that is looked at in the selection process includes how extensive their involvement was within their community and school, if the student possesses any special interests, skills or talents, are they socially aware, do they make the most of opportunities given, and do they have the ability to overcome barriers in life. Furthermore, the student must demonstrate academic excellence; possess originality, creativity, kindness, character, and ideals.
