What is wrong with Minority Scholarships today?
In the last few years, many colleges and universities that once offered minority scholarships specifically to women or ethnic groups, have begun to offer these same scholarships to those who do not fall into the minority class. What caused this downfall of minority scholarships is the fact that equal opportunity and civil rights groups began threatening legal actions if the colleges and universities did not cease offering these minority scholarships.
This could create many problems, for the simple fact that many minority groups suffer from poverty and cannot afford to attend college. Which is a harsh reality for many students who are hard working, deserving, and well-qualified to receive these scholarships. The truth of the matter remains that there are many scholarships available all across the United States that are not minority specific, therefore, scholarships are available to most everyone regardless of their background.
However, it is generally hard for minorities to gain access or approval to these scholarship programs. This led to the creation of many minority scholarships. People of all races, ages, genders, and ethnic backgrounds deserve the right to seek higher education in efforts to better the world we live in. These minorities could very well be our future leaders within the government, life saving physicians, or any other prominent members of our society.
It is for this reason alone that the minority scholarships must stay in place and be regarded as help for our future. Equal opportunity and civil rights activists have no real idea of the stress and harm they are placing on our youth of today. They are attempting to take away the rights of students who excel academically, help in their community, and show great leadership skill, to attend college. These students have the right to attend college, but may not have the means financially to do so. Therefore, it is essential that minority scholarships remain in place to allow our future generations the opportunity to study in their chosen fields.
As such, there are many minority scholarships still in place for various minority groups. Such as the United Negro Fund, The Hispanic College Fund, The Jackie Robinson Foundation, American Association of Hispanic CPA’s, Development Fund for Black Students in Science, State Farm Insurance Hispanic Scholarships, and Bell Labs Fellowships for Under-Represented Minorities, just to name a few.
There are literally hundreds of minority scholarships available in the United States, the key is finding them. Through internet searches, you will have the ability to obtain the information needed to apply for any one of these scholarships and attend the college or university of your choice.
