Scholarships for Left Handed People.
Within the world, only about ten percent of the population are left handed people. You may have, or may not have heard about scholarships for left handed people. Many people believe there is no such thing, that it is just rumor or a really bad joke someone started. However, you may be surprised to learn that there is, in fact, honest to goodness the existence of scholarships for left handed people.
While, you may think this is some kind of wacky opportunity someone cooked up, the truth remains that in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania the Juniata College does offer scholarships for left handed people, only at their college alone. While my research took me many different places, the only true instance that I found of these types of scholarships was at Juniata College.
Therefore, through this discovery, left handed people are finally getting some credit for their truly unique abilities. A former Juniata student, Mary Francis Beckley, established the scholarships for left handed people in 1979. Upon her death, Ms. Beckley left the college a sum of money to be used for the scholarship. The scholarships for left handed people gives students between one thousand to fifteen hundred dollars each year for those students who attend Juniata college. The scholarship cannot be used at any other college and is only available to those students currently in their sophomore to senior year at the college.
Ok, so how do they determine who gets the scholarships for left handed people? Well, when applying for Juniata College, there is a question on the data forms asking if you are left or right handed. Simple as that, however, the scholarships for left handed people are awarded only to those that receive top marks on their academic records while attending the college.
There is no exact science on identifying the students, except by their academic performance. The director of financial planning at Juniata College, states they do not require students to provide proof that they are indeed left handed. Only a small handful of students have received this scholarship since its inception in 1979, forty to be precise.
Left handed people have dominated many industries particularly athletics. Many athletes are left handed, as are others in the entertainment world and politics as well. Some famous left handed folks include former Presidents Gerald Ford, George Bush, and Bill Clinton. Furthermore, Albert Einstein, Colin Powell, Al Gore, Jerry Seinfeld, and Jay Leno are amongst the many celebrities that are left handed.
There are no real requirements to receive scholarships for left handed people with the exception of being left handed, a success in the academic world, and demonstration of financial need.
