Scholarships: Students Vision Impairments
Every person should have the opportunity to go to college regardless of age, race, sex, or impairment. This is why there are scholarships for students with vision impairments available. Regardless of limitations or disabilities, including blindness or vision problems, every person should have the opportunity to seek higher education. If you are a student who has any sort of vision impairment, from little vision to complete blindness, you have the opportunity to go to a college or university. If you lack the necessary funds, you might want to consider applying for scholarships students vision impairment.
This type of scholarship is created especially for people with vision impairments or blindness. Before you can be deemed eligible to receive this type of scholarship, you are required to provide proof of your impairment before you can obtain any moneys towards your education.
Other than proof of impairment, scholarships students vision impairment is really no different from other types of scholarships. It carries a list of requirements that you must meet in order to become eligible for the scholarships and depending on which scholarship you choose to apply for, you will have to meet each one. As an example, the Chicago Lighthouse, offers a scholarship called "Scholarships for Students with Low Vision or Blindness". In order to be deemed eligible for this scholarship, there are specific requirements you must meet.
First, you must provide evidence that you are attending or will be attending a college, university, or community college that is an accredited school for the school year you are applying for. You must also provide the scholarship committee with an eye report from your physician showing documented evidence that you have a visual impairment. You must provide the committee with your GAP, as well as an essay detailing your goals in education and career, as well as academic achievements, activities, your background, how you view your visual impairment, and how the scholarships might help you achieve these goals.
The ACB ( American Council of the Blind) offers many scholarships students vision impairment. These scholarships are backed by the council and offered to any person who can meet the requirements and is visually impaired.
Some of these scholarships include the Arnold Sadler scholarship which awards $1,500 to students that are blind and seeking a degree in fields such as rehabilitation or disabled services.
Of course, there are many scholarships students vision impairment can apply for and receive. The best advice we can offer is to research the different scholarships available and apply based on the requirements and your ability to meet them.
